Traveling While Black: Covington, Kentucky Black-Owned Guide

Covington, KY is that quiet little sister no one talks about because it sits right across the river from Cincinnati, OH. With a population of around 40,000 compared to Cincinnati’s 315,000, it’s easy to overlook. But honestly? Covington surprised me, especially Black-Owned Covington, KY.

Traveling While Black in Lexington, Kentucky: Is it Worth Visiting?

You came here because you are wondering: What is it like traveling while Black in Lexington, KY? Is Lexington a Black-Friendly Destination? Is Lexington, KY worth visiting? I am excited to talk about what it really means traveling while Black in Lexington, Kentucky, and how Lexington measures up on my BLACK Welcome Index.

Spend a Weekend in Black-Owned Lexington, Kentucky

Lower Manhattan is often framed as the financial capital of the world: we're talking Wall Street, big skyscrapers, fast-paced energy. But beneath that polished surface lies something deeper: one of the most significant Black historical landscapes, much of it that exists six feet under. We are talking about the Ellis Island for enslaved Africans, according to former Mayor David Dickens, our first NYC Black mayor.  We are talking about the African Burial Ground. We are talking about a Black-owned Lower Manhattan.

A Black Woman’s Guide to Visit All 50 States: My Journey

If you’ve ever thought about the goal to visit all 50 states, you’re in the right place! This is more than a bucket list for me. It’s a personal commitment to experience the fullness of this country through its cities, small towns, food, culture, and the histories we were not always taught. It is part of a larger goal I set for myself to visit all 50 states and 50 countries by age 50.

Traveling While Black: Tulsa, Oklahoma Black Owned Guide

Known as “the world's largest small town," Tulsa, Oklahoma offers a wonderful mix of both Native American and African American culture and history, plus a blend of Midwestern and Southern charm. It is rich in Black history from Black Wall Street to the Tulsa Race Massacre. Interestingly. it was also known as "the Oil Capital of the World" due to the the rapid growth of the oil industry. By 1920, Tulsa served as the base for over 400 petroleum companies.

Traveling While Black: Baltimore Black Owned Guide

When I think of Baltimore, I think of Black folk! In fact, it is one of the blackest cities in the USA, sixth place to be exact. However, this shift did not occur until the 1970’s. Considering the number of black people in Baltimore, it is not noticeable in the number of black owned businesses. As a result, you have to make an active effort to explore Black Baltimore!

Exploring “Charm City:” Long Weekend Guide for Baltimore

Looking for a long weekend? Baltimore is the perfect place to check out! I am OK with going against the status quo and fighting for Baltimore as a tourism place. Although it may be rough around the edges, it also has so many gems -- making it one of those underrated cities I love.

Why Baltimore, Why Now: 9 Reasons to Visit

If you were paying attention to the news in late July (2019), you would have noticed that Baltimore became the center of attention, and not for good reasons. Ironically, I was in Baltimore watching the news with my mom when it was reported that Trump tweeted that he considered it “the worst run and the most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there” and that the district is a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

Exploring the History of the “Small Wonder” of Delaware

As a result, Delaware makes me happy because of its historical significance. The state may be small, but it is the FIRST state of this country. Of course, I was much inclined to check out some #historicsites this states has to offer. Here are two tourist attractions that I highly recommend you check out.

The Bourgeois Experience of Hotel du Pont

I had the luxury of staying at Hotel DuPont for 5 days, 4 nights for a leadership conference not just once but TWICE. Random History: The intention behind creating this hotel was to serve as a prestigious hotel in Wilmington, Delaware. To level up among the finest European and New York City hotels, this hotel served as the financial and social center for the Wilmington elite. It took 18 French and Italian craftsmen more than two years to build this hotel.
