Traveling While Black & American: Egypt Edition

In an effort to shed light on a lens that I travel everywhere with, I decided that it was important for me to explicitly talk about My Black American Traveler Experience. I want to stress that everyone has their own experiences and biases traveling to any country. Therefore, my experience may not be your own. In specifying the Black American identity, I acknowledge that while there are some commonalities in experiences as Black people, there is also privilege that comes with being an American. I am supplementing my thoughts and experiences with a context on demographics as I think that it is important in order to paint the whole picture of traveling while black

It is literally one of the ancient river valley civilizations. However, Egypt is not a country that you should just spontaneously travel to. I mean you can, but you will feel overwhelmed.  There are many things that I wish I knew before arriving in Egypt in order to be more prepared and so I am creating this post so that YOU are much better prepared than I was! Learn from my experiences!

Detailed Travel Guide for Egypt: 1 Week, 6 Cities Itinerary

Egypt has always been on my ultimate bucket list because of the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. Since childhood, I have loved learning Egyptian history. I remember creating a diorama for a 6th grade academic fair. In 9th grade, I continued to fall in love with #Egypt as we studied the ancient river valley civilizations. Fourteen year old me sitting in the front of Global History 9 never thought that I would someday get a chance to see this in person! That dream became a reality in April 2019 with my boyfriend turned fiance during that trip.

How to Prepare for Your First Hammam Experience

If you are reading this article, then you are either planning to try a hammam or are curious on what a hammam is. When a coworker recommended that I try a hammam in Morocco, I was like "HUUUH. What's that!?!" Googling the term did not give me enough information either. Hence, when I got to Fez, I knew that I had to make it happen. However, I was so confused on which one to choose as I had seen some that were extremely nice, but extremely expensive as well. There were also a lot that were on the opposite end of the spectrum, which had me concerned about cleanliness.

Eating Your Way through Morocco: Top 7 Traditional Foods

If you want to “eat good”, then come to Morocco. A blend of Arab and French culture, Morocco's cuisine results in some delicious, yet unique dishes. As a traveling foodie, here are the top seven foods that you must try

    Spending 24 Hours in Casablanca

Before this trip, I thought that the word Casablanca was simply a movie title. However, little did I know that Casablanca was an actual physical place that surely is white (which means blanca in Spanish). I have never seen so many white buildings concentrated in one location! Casablanca is considered the main economic city of Morocco, and it definitely appears to be the most modern as well.

Ultimate Guide to Marrakesh in 1.5 Days

There is no way that you can go to Morocco without visiting Marrakech. It’s the same as going to Paris and not seeing the EIffel Tower! From some of my prior posts, you can gather that Marrakesh is not my favorite city. However, that does not mean that you should not visit. In fact, there are plenty of things to do to cross off your bucket list, right here!

6 Reasons Fez Should Be On Your Morocco Bucket List

Scroll on Instagram and you will find endless Morocco posts featuring Marrakech and Chechakoes. To be honest, I was not that impressed with Marrakech (although I will write a separate blog post featuring some hidden gems there). Fez (sometimes spelled #Fes), however, captured my heart! I fell in love with the ancient feel of the city: donkeys with carts coming down narrow alleyways of the medina and endless decadent doors with massive surprising spaces behind it. You truly get an authentic taste of Moroccan culture here especially because Fez served as the Moroccan capital for more than 400 years and is home to the University of Al Karaouine, the oldest operating university in the world.

5 Must See Places While Visiting Rabat

Have you ever heard of Rabat? Me neither...at least until this tour! Then I came to learn that Rabat is actually the current capital of Morocco and one of the cities that really caught my eye. I somehow always end up falling in love with atypical places, and Rabat is just that. It is filled with a long standing history and awestruck architecture!
